Sorry for the break

Sorry for the long intermission. Moving out of my boyfriend's house, no internet, and no free time really has made me neglect my art a bit, but I have started a new project with a friend of mine for a 3D element for DnD. Yes, I am a dork and proud of it. :) Anyway, we are working on making a 3d Arena, full scale. Well, full scale for DnD miniatures anyway... Think the colosseum in Rome. Similar to that. Gonna be made of foam core, and all mapped out. I will post pics when it is done. So exited to be working on such an exiting project!

Completion! How sweet the word...

Here are my "Beautiful Nature Series" 1-3. I finally completed the polymer atcs I was working on. I am quite proud of them actually. It took a lot of planning on my part to decide which colors to use for each and what I wanted the art work to relay to the viewer. So after much trial and error, I tried to paint with watercolors but it didn't work, I finally have 3 finished pieces that I am pretty proud of. I originally made these cards with the intent to trade but I have just simply put to many woman hours into these little pieces of art. I am not sure how much I want to sell them for but I don't think that I can part from them for free. Unless of course there is another polymer artist out there who would like to trade. Polymer for polymer?? :)

ATC Exchange

I haven't really been keeping up with this blog, but I have been quite busy lately. Anyway, I have some great news! I just got back from an ATC card exchange in Freeport ME. Maine! I haven't ever heard of another one in Maine so that is pretty exciting in itself. Even more exiting is that there is going to be another one! April 11th people! Mark it on the calendar. The first one was kind of a bust. Only 4 or 5 people actually showed and 2 of them were owners of the gallery. So the next one is going to be a mail in or come in kind of show. What they will do is advertise all over the globe, get cards from everywhere, the people who come to the show can trade and then all the cards will be traded and then sent back. So say that some one from Brazil sent in 9 cards. They would get 9 cards back by 9 different artists. Get it? Pretty fun from an artist's p.o.v. So in light of this ATC kick I am on right now I posted some pictures of some of my own atcs'. Hope you like them. If you want more information leave a comment or send me an IM on yahoo. My screen name is blackfox09. I would love for as many people as possible to participate in this event!

How was your Valentine's Day??

Hmmm... what to say. My V-Day went ok. Not that it really needed to. I don't feel like Valentine's Day is really a valid holiday for the U.S. I see it as just another way for the retailers to get more of people's hard earned money. Why give us a holiday to celebrate love. Isn't that what everyday is for? I am not saying I want to get showered with gifts every day because I definitely do NOT want gifts and affection every day. I want a man to get me flowers because he wants to, not because the tv and society tell him to. I'm sure there are lots of women who look forward to getting presents, cards, and pampering on Valentine's Day. I am just simply not one of them. Moving on...
Okay, so I haven't scanned any new pages or artwork yet so again, I am forced to go into my art archive and choose something from there. Sigh* I really should be getting better at this by now, but I digress. :P

I did this for a page in a book that I am working on with my best friend Robyn. We have been working on the book for over a year. It is definitely a slow moving project but worth the effort. :)
So this drawing/painting was done with a gesso background, pencil, and sharpie markers. Hope you like my quirky sense of humor. Enjoy...

Sometimes it takes someone else...

I had not realized it, but my Mom pointed out to me that my artwork lately has been a little less than delightful. Meaning that I am a bit depressed. Something that is not easily admitted to. Nonetheless, it is true that lately things have not been going the way I really want them to. So I am going to try and make things better for myself and my family starting with my own outlook. My artwork often reflects my emotional stability i guess, but at the same time, it does not mean that all my artwork should be taken to heart. Sometimes I do things because I think it looks cool. But anyway, here is my latest journal page. Again, it is going on the same kind of theme. Loneliness. This one I did with a gesso background, watercolor crayons, a dollar store marker, and some micron pigment pens. :) I like it. I had no idea what I was going to do when I sat down with my book and this kinda just popped out so without further adeiu... The Lonely Traveler.

February Journals!!! Whoo

So here it is the 4th of February and I have finally finished the art journal in a jar, more on that later, and I have a new page. This one I did out of inspiration from Michele Ward's site of Art Crusade's. I just joined the ranks of all the other followers. Anyway, here is the site. This one is in response to Number 37. Love letters. I titled it Only a heart can break this way. More to come soon!

Adventures in the Art World

I recently discovered a show titled Art Race on the Halogen station. Umm... that is channel 113 in my area on TimeWarner Cable. Anyway, the basic premise of this show is: two artists from opposite ends of the country, drop them off in each other's home state and they have to make there way home in 40 days with their art. They need to trade artwork for lodging, food, travel, the basic necessities. They have a full camera crew following them around though so they are never truly alone, but from what I have seen of this show so far it seems that the camera crew is really what is drawing attention to the artist but perhaps not. So they start off with a backpack full of art supplies, one dollar, and a map. Sounds pretty awesome right??

It kind of makes me wonder how far I could go on just my artwork. You never know right?? I am thinking of taking my own camcorder and backpack full of supplies and seeing how far I can get on just my art and personality. Realistically, when you are selling your art, you are essentially selling yourself. That can be hard if you don't have an adaptable personality. I think everyone has been in a situation that they had to act or behave in a certian way as to not offend or escalate a person/situation. I have been. So anyway, I'll keep you posted on the trip!

Jan. Art Journal page 2

Finally it is finished and I can go to the next project. The journal page that I have been working on for a week is finally done. After much editing, and fixing, and working, and starting over, etc., etc., this is the outcome. I'm pretty proud of the final outcome of this page. Can't wait to move on!

Something new!

I have not broken my new year's revolution yet! Kudos to me... Anyway, I am still working on that journal in a jar for my mother. It has taken way longer to do than I originally thought it would and so it is a Christmas Present that is way too late. None the less, I will post pics of that soon. I will also be posting up some wedding invitations that I did for my best friend's wedding too! Calla lillies! Yay!
On to why I am writing today. It is really nothing special but I wanted to document that I got some oil pastels. Nothing special right?? Well they are new to me cause I haven't played with any pastels since I was in elementary I think and we were experimenting with making "northern lights" I am sure you probably did something similar in school too. Coloring on paper with your colors, tearing it in half and smudging the color onto your artwork off the side of the torn paper so it makes random patterns like the Northern Lights dancing.
So anyway, I will be experimenting with my new pastels and will post the results soon. Umm... so as far as a piece of artwork today I think I will put up another journal page that I did back in August. While this is all free-hand I do want to say that the fox is not an original piece of work. I got the fox from someone on deviantart.com so if anyone recognizes it please let me know so I can credit them for the fox. Until next time! L8r...

In Progress

Today is January 3rd. I have successfully worked on art work for the last 3 days, however, yesterday and today I have been working on the same piece of work. So I do not have anything to share as far as new artwork goes but I have a journal page that I did a while ago. I just had some crayons and markers I think...

Today I Love You

I made an unofficial New Year's Resolution even though I said I wouldn't. What was it you may ask? To do something creative and/or artsy every day of the year. The first art journal entry came out pretty good. At least I like the outcome anyway...

I wrote an entire page about things that had happened over the past year and things to look forward to in the future as well as some things that had been bugging me.

Then I painted over it, not to cover it up, but to make my surface usable.

I used old brushes that have been abused and not taken care of properly to paint everything along with finger smudges and I think that is it. Anyway...

I just let my mind wander and tell me what to paint and this is the outcome. My first piece of art for the year.
